Area veteran Mel Lufsey was honored with a Quilt of Valor on Tuesday during a meeting of the American Legion Post 354. The quilt was made and presented by Connie Hale and Patty Girt of the Creekside Quilters. “It takes 30 to 40 hours to make a quilt,” Hale said. Creekside Quilters has previously presented quilts to veterans through the Quilts of Valor program. The Quilts of Valor Foundation is a national organization that presents quilts to veterans to thank them for their service and provide comfort and healing. Lufsey served in the Army from 1970 to 1973 during the Vietnam War. He served with the 1st Signal Division and is a member of Post 354. Post 354 commander Ray Ishman nominated Lufsey to receive the quilt. Ishman said he hopes it will be the first of many Quilts of Valor presented through Post 354.
